What role should government play to ensure access to health care? And just what does it mean to have a “right” to health care? Senator Dave Durenberger will moderate the next “Hot Topics: Cool Talk” forum at the University of St. Thomas which will examine these and related questions in light of Catholic teaching. The forum, free and open to the public, will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in Room 235 of the St. Thomas School of Law on the university’s downtown Minneapolis campus.

Senator Durenberger gave the keynote at the 70th anniversary of NORC before 150 directors, officers and professional staff at the reconstructed Chicago Board of Trade offices. NORC applies academic excellence, innovative and rigorous methods, and a collegial philosophy to the most pressing and complex global issues in fields such as health, education, economics, crime, justice, energy, security, and the environment.
Senator Durenberger defined the future of health care and the research and analysis challenges we face. He talked about the “New Economy” and how the policy-making process will react to it and what information requirements are essential to gird policy leadership to undertake the challenges of change.

Senator Durenberger will be discussing the future of medical technology and healthcare reform.
